Training, and especially ongoing training, is a key area for debate in many mortgage companies big and small. However, there are several reasons to suggest that regular training is well worth the investment because building up the skills within the business will effectively improve your company’s bottom line.
In the area of processing, underwriting, and auditing there are less options to choose from compared to training for originators. One of the main reasons for this is there is a requirement that originators have to maintain CE hours every year to keep their license, versus their operations partners that really have no requirements. I think the bottom line that drives this disparity is more opportunity to earn income as a trainer for sales teams versus ops teams because of the federal laws requiring it.
As a guy who has worked in operations most of my career, I have felt the void of a continual lack of ongoing training. Many lessons I learned while becoming a seasoned underwriter came from the school of “hard knocks”. Some of my consulting clients ask me to clarify the cost of this lack of education. My response is lost time (meaning slower turn times) , irritated loan officers, stressed clients, and company losses from buy backs are just some of the costs you will pay for a poorly trained team.
So that leads me to our monthly underwriting mastermind announcement. When we built our on-demand “10 Point Underwriting Process” system we knew that our foundation training of 30+ videos would not be enough. To make sure that our clients receive the top training possible we hold monthly webinars to go over any recent agency updates, provide a practical example of an underwriting concept, (this month we are going over delayed financing rules), and any questions from our underwriting mastermind group members.
I am personally inviting you to check out our full underwriting training system, if you sign up for any level of UberWriter (even the free version!) you are enrolled in our trial version of out training system which includes an invitation to one of our monthly masterminds.
I look forward to seeing you at the webinar!
